Wikis in Science and other subjects too!

The goal of this wiki is to be sure and not recreate the wheel. Instead, it should be a gathering place for those that would like to or are currently using wikis in the classroom. There are countless others that have already done the hard work of gathering the information, now it just needs to be put in one place.

Wiki Basics

What is a wiki?
Put simply, it is a webpage or collection of pages that can be edited by the users. The word wiki comes from a Hawaiian phrase meaning quick. That is the intent of a wiki. The users do not need to understand a great amount of coding language to edit a wiki. Users only need to know how to type.

How much does it cost?
It depends. What a great answer! Just like with most web-hosting the price varies greatly depending on how it will be used and the number of users accessing it. Several sites will allow you to have a limited, free wiki. If you are an educator, then you are given special privileges on some of the wiki sites. Many of them will provide you with some of the services available only to paying members of their site.
